The Lookout
Chris Pratt (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) was a once promising high school athlete whose life is turned upside down following a tragic car accident. As he tries to maintain a normal life, he takes a job as a janitor at a bank, where he ultimately finds himself caught up in a planned bank robbery.
This is a great movie with very few flaws. A lot of time went into the script and cast selection. I’m not usually a fan of crime drama / thrillers but this one seemed different, almost like more of an effort was made during its production. There are a few plot twists that add to the movies flow, most of which worked. Read more
Disturbia
Well, Shia LaBeouf has been busy this year, first a leading role in one of the most anticipated movies of the summer, Transformers, Now a lead role in the very well presented Horror/Thriller Disturbia.
Before I begin this review I must say, I really hope Shia doesn’t become stagnant playing a similar role in all his upcoming movies. Although he plays his part incredibly well, I fear he may become branded as a one dimensional actor, this kid is talented, give him some more challenging roles! Read more
Reign Over Me
Adam Sandler’s finest movie. A real tear jerker. This is one of those films that practically forces the tears out of your eyes, I haven’t actually shed a tear over any movie as far as I can remember until I saw Reign Over Me. The movie is split into two storylines, Don Cheadle playing a dentist with a controlling wife and Adam Sandler playing the role of a post traumatic stress victim due to the events of 9/11 killing his entire family.
As the story unfolds Sandler really defines his character, his heart wrenching story really hit a nerve with me and I felt a lot of sympathy and anger whilst watching the movie, again, I cannot recall ever being so emotionally involved with a film. Read more
This is England
Quite possibly the best British film in years. The acting, plot, script everything works, and works very well. I wont go into the story too much but outline the basic premise of the film. It’s centered around a young boy dealing with the recent death of his father, bullied and abused in school who is befriended by skinheads.
Now, when you think about British skinheads in the early 80’s violence, racism and brutality are the words that come to mind, This film strays away from typical skinhead behaviors and focuses more on the friendship and bonds that can be made no matter what clique your in. Read more
Pirates of the Caribbean 3
Prepare your sea legs as we set sail on another swashbuckling adventure! The Season for 3’s! POTC’s third and final installment in a wonderful trilogy. The biggest letdown for me of this movie is the lack of Jack Sparrow! I’d have liked to have seen him a lot more in this movie, instead, the movie gets to big, looses focus and gets overly complicated. This is why the first of the three is still my favorite.
Spiderman 3
Where to begin? After the light-hearted yet great action-packed first two movies, what were we to expect for the third movie? Apparently the movie was marketed as the “darkest” of the three, seemed to promise more action, especially when combining three villains from the comic books.
But as a fan, I went to the theater to see the movie, And the reviews and critics were right. The movie tries to do too much and in the end disappoints. Read more
