Adam Sandler’s finest movie. A real tear jerker. This is one of those films that practically forces the tears out of your eyes, I haven’t actually shed a tear over any movie as far as I can remember until I saw Reign Over Me. The movie is split into two storylines, Don Cheadle playing a dentist with a controlling wife and Adam Sandler playing the role of a post traumatic stress victim due to the events of 9/11 killing his entire family.
As the story unfolds Sandler really defines his character, his heart wrenching story really hit a nerve with me and I felt a lot of sympathy and anger whilst watching the movie, again, I cannot recall ever being so emotionally involved with a film.
This movie has a pretty spectacular cast with Liv Tyler as the “conveniently located therapist” and even Donald Sutherland got a nice role as the “don’t mess with me” Judge assigned to handle Sandler’s insanity hearing.
My only problem is the conveniences this movie presented. everything falls into place a little bit too predictably. That aside the script, acting, cast and plot are all just right. The movie held its direction well and kept me interested on all sub plots and stories. It even made me cry on 2 occasions.
A big 2 thumbs up to Mike Binder who wrote and directed Reign Over Me, I don’t think he could have possibly done a better job. A resounding 8.7/10 – must see
