Transformers CoverA blast from the past with the typical Michael Bay twist. As excited as I was to see this movie, I walked into the theater with baited breath.

This movie takes no time to get started, introducing the young and highly talented Shia LaBeouf playing the role of Sam Witwicky, A role he plays to perfection. Without Shia I feel this movie would have been a complete disaster, he truly does steal the show for me.

Although a lot of the plot is complete nonsense and at times makes no sense what so ever, the film makes up for it in some very humors ways. One of my biggest concerns was the blatant advertising shoved down our throat, I saw HP (Hewlett Packard) at least 4 times in the opening 10 minutes, This continues throughout the movie with cars, energy drinks, electrical products, you name it…. its plugged in this film.

Advertising aside, lets talk about the Transformers. They are almost all there with the noticeable difference being bumblebee, of course a VW beetle in the original cartoons, now a Camero? Bay’s idea was to modernize the concept, there had to be some changes and he did reference the original characters VW Beetle early on, during the introduction of the new Camero version Bumblebee.

Optimus Prime’s character was so badly scripted it made me cringe on several occasions but I think his voice acting was pretty spot on. The CGI was incredibly well done but the action sequences were a little too fast and made for some very hectic scenes where almost nothing but a mass of metal could be made out.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie, it’s quirky humor and decent lead actor helped carry the pointless sub-plots and bad dialog, I’d give Transformers the movie a solid 7/10
